Chasing the Narrative Inside　

　I am a photographer on a journey across Japan, pursuing a diverse range of subjects to capture the unique, fleeting moments that can only be found in a specific place, at a specific time.

　What I seek are not merely beautiful landscapes. I seek scenes of sublime extremity—sights that manifest only for a moment, when countless coincidences of light, time, human activity, and the presence of life harmonize in perfect unison. It is within this beauty, born from what can only be described as a miraculous confluence of events, that I believe we can find the essential narratives and hints for navigating the complexities of our modern world.

　In our current age, we are inundated with information from the internet and social media, constantly required to adapt to new changes. Behind this veil of convenience, we often lose sight of timeless wisdom and the lessons we can learn from the world around us. In an era where simplistic “answers” are readily available, I feel it is more crucial than ever to see with our own eyes, think with our own minds, and judge for ourselves.

One of the subjects where I seek these answers in such an age is a submerged forest. While accepting their fate of being sunk in water, these trees tenaciously survive, changing their appearance with the seasons and the hours. Their visage in winter, standing still on the frozen lake, is especially breathtaking, its expression shifting by the minute. This very presence quietly teaches us the meaning of accepting change and living with supple strength, even in the harshest of environments.

　To capture a scene like this, technical skill with a camera is not enough. It requires visiting the same place time and again to develop a deep understanding of the subject. It requires waiting with unwavering patience for that decisive moment. Only through this dedicated process can I create a single image that is not just a record, but a message. And the goal of a photograph born this way is not merely “beauty.” It is to create an opportunity, through the story the work tells, to encounter the kind of “essential questions of life” that information and technology alone cannot provide, and to inspire deep contemplation.

　No matter what subject I photograph in the future, this conviction will not change. It is my hope that my photographs, with their “beauty” as an entryway, will become a compass for each viewer to reflect upon their own way of being and navigate the future.

内なる物語を追い求めて

　私は日本を旅する写真家です。その場所で、その時にしか出会えない、特別な一瞬を写真に収めるため、様々な被写体を追いかけています。

　私が追い求めるのは、単に美しいだけの風景ではありません。光や時間、人々の営みや生き物の気配といった、無数の偶然が完璧に調和した一瞬にだけ現れる、極限の光景です。そうした奇跡の巡り合わせとも言える美しさの中にこそ、今の複雑な社会を生き抜くための本質的な物語が宿っていると、私は信じています。

　今の時代、インターネットやSNSには情報が溢れ、私たちは常に新しい変化に対応しなくてはなりません。その便利さの裏側で、昔から大切にされてきた考え方や、自然から学べることを見失いがちです。簡単に、それっぽい「答え」が見つかる時代だからこそ、自分の目でしっかり確かめ、頭でじっくり思考し判断することが、より重要になっていると感じます。

　そうした時代の中で、私が答えを求める被写体の一つに、水没林があります。水に沈むという運命を受け入れながら、季節や時間と共に姿を変え、力強く生き続ける木々。特に冬、氷結した湖面に佇む姿は、分刻みで表情を変え、見る者を圧倒します。その姿そのものが、厳しい環境の中でも変化を受け入れ、しなやかに生き抜くことの意味を、静かに教えてくれます。

　こうした光景を写真に収めるには、カメラの技術だけでは不十分です。その場所に何度も足を運び、被写体を深く知ろうとすること。そして、「これだ」という瞬間を諦めずに待ち続けること。そうした地道な積み重ねがあって初めて、ただの記録ではない、メッセージ性のある一枚が撮れるのです。そうして生まれた一枚が目指すのは、単なる「美しさ」ではありません。作品が語りかける物語を通して、情報や技術だけでは得られない「生きる上で本質的な問い」と出会い、深く思索するきっかけを作ることです。

　これからどんな被写体を撮るにしても、この想いは変わりません。私の写真が、その「美しさ」を入り口として、鑑賞者一人ひとりが自らの在り方を再考し、未来を生き抜くための羅針盤となることを願っています。
